Strange Chinese delicacy of the week 16

remember this?

“A 17-year-old girl who suffers from epilepsy is following a folk remedy prescription and eating 30 live ……….. every day in the hope of being cured. She began eating ……… recently after seeing a village doctor. Her father said that the frequency of her seizures had since dropped from seven or eight a day to just one or two.”

And the answer is…earthworms. Yep. If her recovery is some way related I would love to know the science behind that one, I can tell you.

This week’s photo is slightly gruesome. I’ll tell you now that there’s absolutely NO way in hell this would get past the clinical trial authorities. In fact, it is more likely to be seen on a David Attenborough show, if there was an internal dama dama camera (that’s the clue by the way).

Guesses below as normal!

Not your usual British snack
